Alki Beach in West Seattle offers one of the most scenic bike rides in the city—a 4-mile paved trail along the waterfront with stunning views of Puget Sound, the Seattle skyline, and the Olympic Mountains.
The Ride
The Alki Beach Trail runs from Seacrest Park to the Alki Point lighthouse, passing the sandy beach, beachfront cafes, and stunning viewpoints. The trail is flat, paved, and perfect for beach cruisers, road bikes, and families. It's an out-and-back ride, so you can go as far as you want and turn around.
Getting There
You can reach Alki Beach by car (street parking is available), by the West Seattle Water Taxi from downtown Seattle (a fun ride itself), or by bike via the West Seattle Bridge trail. The water taxi runs daily and takes bikes.
Best Time to Ride
Summer weekdays are ideal—the trail is less crowded and the weather is usually perfect. On summer weekends, the trail is packed with cyclists, joggers, and beachgoers. Go early morning for the best experience. Sunset rides are spectacular, with the sun setting over the Olympic Mountains.
Stops Along the Way
Alki Beach has a row of beachfront cafes, restaurants, and bars. Stop for coffee, fish and chips, or a beer with a view. There are also restrooms and water fountains along the trail.
